Andrew Thorn: Očuvanje oslika i rezbarija na stijenama na području Australije i Azije

  Andrew Thorn, australski restaurator specijaliziran za konzerviranje i restauriranje starosjedilačkih slikarija, u kratkim će crtama predstaviti projekte koji prikazuju teorijski pristup i izazove u očuvanju oslika i rezbarija na stijenama. Andrew će u izlaganju pokazati primjere te drevne umjetnosti na stijenama iz Australije, Novog Zelanda, Sjedinjenih Američkih Država i Kine koji ilustriraju dijagnostičke i interventne strategije prilagođene lokalitetima na otvorenom. Oslici i rezbarije na stijenama su najdugovječnija svjedočanstva lovačko-sakupljačkih društava. Ta su društva asimilirana, uglavnom neuspješno, u moderne sustave vrijednosti. Restaurator koji radi na takvim kulturnim dobrima mora surađivati s njihovim skrbnicima, a oni često imaju drugačiji pogled na svijet. S druge strane, umjetnost primitivnih kultura podsjeća današnje mlade starosjedioce na prošlost koja im je oduzeta. Andrew Thorn će govoriti i o “ljudskoj” strani očuvanja ovih umjetničkih djela kao sastavnome dijelu tog procesa.   Predavanje će biti na engleskom jeziku, a trajat će 60 minuta. Predavanje organizira Odsjek za konzervaciju-restauraciju Umjetničke akademije u Splitu u suradnji s Institutom za povijest umjetnosti – Centrom Cvito Fisković i Centrom za kulturu i cjeloživotno obrazovanje Zlatna vrata. Andrew Thorn: Preservation of rock art in Australasia

  Andrew Thorn, a fine art conservator specializing in the preservation of indigenous painted surfaces, will give an outline of projects that highlight the challenges and philosophies inherent in the preservation of rock art. The talk will discuss examples of both painted and engraved sites in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and China that bring out the diagnostic and interventive strategies that have been adapted and refined specifically for outdoor sites. Rock art is the most enduring manifestation of hunter-gatherer societies that have been largely absorbed into modern value systems without great success. It is inevitable that working with rock paintings requires the conservator to engage with custodians who often have a completely different world view. On the other hand rock art is a reminder to modern young indigenous people of a past that has been taken. The conservator will discuss some of the human side of rock art preservation as an integral part of the preservation process.   The talk will be delivered in English. Duration: 60 min.
